Where is Maserati From?

Maserati began in the northern Italian town of Bologna in December of 1914. Founded by five brothers — Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto — Maserati was always performance-focused. In 1940, Maserati HQ was moved from Bologna to Modena, Italy, where it still operates today making genuine Maserati parts and new vehicles alike.

  • Italian Maserati manufacturing locations include the Agnelli Plant in Grugliasco, Italy (which primarily makes the Quattroporte and Ghibli), and the Mirafiori Plant in Turin, Italy (which primarily makes the Levante SUV). Both these plants are located about three hours north of Modena, close to the French border.
  • Planning a trip to Italy? You’re able to visit the Maserati plant in Modena, Italy and even take an hour and a half guided tour of the showrooms and factory assembly line.
  • The Maserati trident looks nautical because it is; this logo is based on the Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna. It was designed by Mario Maserati, an artist and relative of the company founders.
  • The Maserati mission is to “build ultra-luxury performance automobiles with timeless Italian style, accommodating bespoke interiors, and effortless, signature sounding power.”
  • After being owned by a few different parent companies over the decades, it is now owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) as of 1993 and is in a brand group with Alfa Romeo, another Italian luxury car company. FCA is a multi-national Italian/American corporation headquartered in London, UK and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Since its ownership by FCA, Maserati has been steadily growing in the auto industry.
  • Maserati brand partners include fashion designers like Bulgari and Ermenegildo Zegna who have a hand in their luxurious interiors, as well as the audio tech company Bowers and Wilkins who design the premium Maserati sound systems.
